My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. (1 John 2:1-2)

Jesus is  the One. He’s the One for you, and the One for me, and the One for the whole world. If there was ever one for all — every last one — it is Jesus. Jesus is One for all.

Anyone who says, “Well, your belief in Jesus might be good for you, but it’s just not for me,” is sadly blinded and does not know the truth. Jesus is One for all, not just those who believe it, but for everyone. He was the sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. There is no sin outside the atoning sacrifice of Jesus’ death on the cross. There simply and clearly is no sin that Jesus hasn’t paid for. That person at work making life miserable for you has already been forgiven. Jesus is for her. You can be, too. Terrorist killing in the name of Allah have already been forgiven; their sins have been paid for. Jesus is for them. You can be, too. The very ones who crucified Jesus were forgiven; He forgave them from the cross even as He was dying.

Jesus is the lawyer, criminal, judge, and jury. He’s already been sentenced and served the sentence. He is the One for all; there is no other. He has sentenced sin and served the sentence. The sins the world commits have already been forgiven. There is no one who is too far gone because Jesus is the atoning sacrifice for their sins.

You can see why we are so excited about the Gospel of Welcome, because Jesus is the One for everyone. Go tell it on the mountain, over the hill and everywhere. Jesus is the One — the Righteous One — the One who’s righteousness is attributed to all who believe. We are righteous, not because we are good (no one knows that better than we do), but because He is the Righteous One for us. God looks at us and sees Jesus, because He’s the One. He’s the One, not only for us, but for the whole world.

So here is our Gospel of Welcome message to the world: “Your sins have already been forgiven. Why not accept that forgiveness by believing in Jesus?”
