Clear the way

OIP-4

Listen! It’s the voice of someone shouting, “Clear the way through the wilderness for the Lord!  Make a straight highway through the wasteland for our God!  Isaiah 40:3

Go tell it on the mountain

Over the hill and everywhere. – Traditional spiritual

In this powerful prophecy, we hear the call to prepare the way for the Lord—not by doing His work for Him, but by clearing away the clutter for Him to be heard. Just as John the Baptist announced the coming of the Lord, we now live in the reality of His presence among us. He is here, and it is our calling to make a highway through to Him, to recognize His presence and experience His grace and love.

Our task is to clear the obstacles so people might meet Jesus where He is. Through our transparency, He can work through us. Just as He entered our lives at the perfect time, He will do the same for others—but in His good time and His way.

We are not called to control the outcome or tasked with judging when or how others will come to know Him. That’s God’s business. Our role is to make a way to care for the weak, the hurting, and the abused, regardless of whether they are already part of the body of believers. We are to be His assistants in the work of love, compassion, and care—offering dignity and respect to everyone we encounter, for each one of us is a creation of God, still being shaped by His hand. By doing this, we make a way to the Lord.

This means that we are called to walk alongside others in their most vulnerable and confusing moments, offering them the love of Christ through our actions, not just our words. Acts of kindness, empathy, and love can create an environment where hearts are opened and lives are changed—not because of what we do, but because of the Lord’s work through us.

So, let us be those who “go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere.” Let us be the ones who clear a path to bring people from where they are to where He is. And as we serve others, let us trust that in His perfect timing, God will complete His work in the lives of those we love and serve.

May we all listen to His voice and faithfully prepare the way for others to encounter the Lord.

Introducing our new podcast, Between the Answers

Beginning September 18 through mid-October, the daily “Between the Answers” Podcast will look back to the pioneers of a historical phenomenon: the Jesus Movement, examine why it transformed into a broader social and political force over time, and ask questions about the Movement’s original message and its transformative power today. Our premise lies in the questions we need to ask between the answers.
