Truthful words stand the test of time,
but lies are soon exposed.
Deceit fills hearts that are plotting evil;
joy fills hearts that are planning peace! Proverbs 12:19-20
Lies, lies, lies. So many lies. Who’s telling the truth? Is anyone?
Who won the 2020 election in the U.S.? Was 9/11 an inside job? Are any mass shootings staged? Can you control the weather from outer space? Even though these things may not affect you directly, they are still unsettling and when they start piling up, it becomes hard to know who you can trust. You begin to feel like everyone and everything — maybe even yourself — is teetering on the edge of reality. This is when we need truthful words, and there is no better source of truthful words than the word of God.
The Word
Song by John Fischer
Who can you trust when all turns to dust
And the dreams of men lie battered and crushed
How can you say this is the way
When the founders of wisdom lie in coffins of clay
Where is the truth that will stand the test of time?
Flowers will fade and fall away
But the word of God is here to stay
Man shall not live by bread alone
But by every word from the mouth of God
Truthful words stand the test of time because the truth never changes. When you feel yourself teetering, grab the Bible and listen to the word of God. Sink your teeth into something eternal — something true yesterday, today and forever, and that something — Someone — is Jesus. Time will expose the lies to be what they are, and the truth to be what it is.
And then make your plans for peace. Seek peace in all your relationships and your heart will do nothing but fill up with joy!
