Eyes Wide Open: Seeing What God Says

First, a word about Habakkuk. Habakkuk was an “everyman’s” prophet, in some ways like us. Unlike many other prophets, Habakkuk appears to have initiated the conversation with God, rather than being directly called to deliver a message to the people. His prophetic work is a series of questions and dialogues with God about the injustice he witnesses —an unusual format for a prophetic book. He was pleading for God’s mercy on behalf of the people, rather than a prophet decreeing God’s message to them.

We live in a loud world. Everyone has something to say. Social media, news, influencers — truth is getting harder to spot in the noise. But we’re not powerless in all this. We are modern-day prophets. Not because we’re perfect or special, but because we go to God with hard questions and expect real answers.

Just like Habakkuk did:

“I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guard post. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how He will answer my complaint.” – Habakkuk 2:1

The line that matters: “see what the Lord says.” Our job isn’t to be clever or loud — it is to wait to see. It’s better to wait to see than to speak too soon. Saying the wrong thing as if it’s from God does more harm than good.

Today, we’re drowning in opinions. Everyone’s a voice. Everyone claims to know the truth — especially online where self-appointed prophets abound. But here’s the truth that cuts through the noise: God doesn’t just speak in words. He speaks in ways we need eyes to notice. As modern-day prophets we wait and watch — with eyes wide open.

And when we ask, “God, why aren’t You doing something about this?” we wait — not passively, but watchfully. We’re looking for what He wants to show us, not necessarily what He wants to tell us.

But here’s the thing: the answer won’t always come through logic. It won’t land in your head first. It will be made known in your heart because the Holy Spirit lives there.

“You have received the Holy Spirit, and He lives within you… the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know.” – 1 John 2:27

That means you don’t have to rely on popular voices, big names, or even be afraid of being wrong. You have the same Holy Spirit in you that the early believers had. That’s not just symbolic — that’s the real Holy Spirit of God living inside you.

But remember, the Spirit doesn’t speak through your head. He speaks through your heart. The mind wants to control, analyze, and protect. But the heart is where the word of God is written. We need to see what the word of God says.

That’s not poetry. That’s reality. You don’t need to chase after someone else’s truth. You already have the Spirit of Truth living inside you.

So yes — climb your tower. Get above the noise. Watch. Wait. Ask boldly. Then look for what God is saying to you.

Your job is not to shout louder. But to see clearer… Eyes wide open. Heart tuned in. And when He shows you something — speak. Not before. That’s what real prophets do.

Think about what Jesus said
Before you let your mind reject Him
Listen to your heart instead
And you will accept Him.

We live in uncertain times. The prophet’s job is to remind God’s people: God is right on time. For the next 30 days, the Catch is running “Eyes Wide Open” — a daily call to watch, listen and act. Our “Eyes Wide Open” booklet in support of each day’s Catch article, including a short Scripture, a brief reflection and a practical step, is available here for download. Will you join us? CLICK HERE to download your booklet. Let’s be the Church that’s awake — not afraid, but ready.

Here’s is today’s entry. Don’t miss this opportunity to interact with the study.

Devotional:
Watchmen don’t guess — they wait. They position themselves to receive clarity. Waiting is not idleness; it’s spiritual vigilance. If you’re unsure of what’s next, don’t rush ahead. Get still. Climb the watchtower of prayer. Be ready for the word that comes. God still speaks to those who stand and watch.

Prayer Prompt:
Teach me to wait, Lord — not in fear, but in faith.

Action Step:
Put 15 minutes on your calendar each day to pray for clarity about your next faithful step.
