Eyes Wide Open to a Wider Angle

Thank you for Your Generous Support

of the

Eyes Wide Open

Annual Campaign.

Your gift means more than we can say. You are helping us keep the Gospel of Welcome alive and moving, reaching people who might never otherwise hear a word of grace spoken directly to them.

You built this community. Your continued partnership strengthens the daily work of teaching, praying, counseling, and creating a place where everyone is welcome and no one stands alone. We are grateful not only for your gift, but for the heart behind it.

With appreciation, I have asked John and Marti to send you John Fischer’s industry-recognized Wide Angle album as our gift for your participation.

Wide Angle

by John Fischer

This song captures so many of the themes of Eyes Wide Open that we thought we would list some of them here followed by the lyrics of the song.

Wide Angle calls those who embrace it to:

see things from a different perspective.
get a bigger window on the world.
anticipate the unfamiliar as an adventure.
not fear change.
shed the status quo.
identify with the pain and suffering of others.
break out of your own silo.
embrace humility.
fully experience life.

Wide Angle
More than what I used to see
Wide angle
More than what is near to me
Where I once was afraid to open up my eyes
Now this wide angle
Has changed my fear into surprise

Beyond the reaches of my point of view
Beyond the motions I go through
There’s a world of wonder; there’s a world of pain
There’s no way that I can stay the same
Give me a …

(Chorus)

Only seeing what we want to see
Only doing what we know
All the while believing that we know it all
When the lens we’re looking through is much too small
Give me a …

(Chorus)

So fill my eyes and ears with the laughter and the tears
Let the dance begin; truth will always win

(Chorus)

Driving Down Christmas Tree Lane

The trees are still standing.

I was born and raised in southern California. During the Christmas season, we would always have an evening where our family would drive to certain areas of town that were famous for decorating magnificently for Christmas every year. My favorite part of this annual outing was that we would always end our evening driving down the much-anticipated Christmas Tree Lane in Altadena where 135 huge deodar cedar trees line both sides of the street and all are strung with colored lights in December. The tradition of Christmas Tree Lane goes back to the 1920s. By the 1950s, when I experienced it, the trees were huge making the display of lights almost overpowering.

’Twas the Night After Thanksgiving

by Marti Fischer

(For those who don’t feel “merry” yet)

’Twas the night after Thanksgiving, and all through the town,
The glitter shone upward while some hearts sank down.
The leftovers rested in dishes with care,
But a hush in my heart said, “I still need repair.”

More Than An Email — It’s a Lifeline

At The Catch, prayer and counseling are not separate departments.

They are one living, breathing ministry — a spiritual triage center where people find covering, care, and Christ-centered strength the moment they reach out.

This is where heaven and humanity meet.
This is where lives are held.
This is where the broken come — and leave changed.
Below we fill you in briefly on our Prayer and Counseling Ministries.

A Modern Nehemiah

There are moments in history when God’s people need more than information. They need a word — a steady, clarifying, Spirit-breathed word that cuts through the noise and reminds us:

God is Right on Time.

Dear Catch Family,

THE CATCH MINISTRY

IS FOR THE

Citizens of the Catch Community

SO THAT WE MIGHT ALL OPERATE WITH OUR

— EYES WIDE OPEN —

A GLOBAL MINISTRY FOR A DIGITAL WORLD

Recognizing ‘congregations’ all over the world were going to outgrow current facilities, the founders of the Catch Ministry purchased acreage in cyberspace. Many wondered why they purchased property way out there. No one is scratching their head today. In September 2012, The Catch Ministry was incorporated as an international cyber-church to introduce the Gospel of Welcome — Grace Turned Outward — to Everyone, Everywhere.

We Still Remember

Meet Maxwell Smith, son of Bob Smith, a long time servant of the Lord and member of the Catch community. The photograph is of Maxwell when he was inducted. Now 29 years old, Maxwell is recovering from a serious injury. I know he would welcome your salutation and want you to join our Prayer Warriors who are covering him in prayers.

We meant to send this yesterday. But remembrance isn’t bound to a calendar — it lives in the choices we make every day to honor courage, sacrifice, and love.

Today, we still pause.
Today, we still honor.

And today, we invite you to join us in remembering those who gave everything for our freedom.

Their legacy didn’t end on the battlefield — it ripples through time.

Through the silence left at dinner tables.
Through the ache in hearts that loved them.
Through those who came back with scars too deep to forget.
Through the freedom we walk in — often unaware of its cost.

Today, we will walk among the markers, speak their names, and offer a moment of reverence for each. Not out of duty, but gratitude. Because their sacrifice made a way for millions to know freedom, peace, and the chance to be loved.

To all who served — past and present — we feel the weight of your courage. And we honor it deeply.

Let’s redeem this day by living like it matters.

Smile at strangers.
Speak kindly.
Lead with respect.
Let your heart guide you.

May we stand together — united in memory, in gratitude, and in love — for those who served and those still serving.

Chariots of Fire

Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. — 2 Kings 6:17

The servant of the prophet Elisha was deeply worried. The king of Aram was upset with Elisha because he was leaking information to the king of Israel about the whereabouts of his troops as the Holy Spirit gave him insight. One of Aram’s generals even said, “Elisha, the prophet in Israel, tells the king of Israel even the words you speak in the privacy of your bedroom!” (2 Kings 6:12)

Champions for Justice

Why We Can’t Wait Any Longer

Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows. — Isaiah 1:17

The Command We Can’t Ignore
Justice isn’t a suggestion. It’s not a bonus round for Christians with a heart for activism. It’s a command — direct from God, rooted in Scripture, and repeated across the prophets, the teachings of Jesus, and the life of the early Church.

The Prophet’s Burden: Speaking Hard Truths

Go, and say to this people, “Listen carefully, but do not understand; watch closely, but learn nothing.” — Isaiah 6:9

This is truly one of the strangest prophesies in the scriptures. It’s a prophecy that tells the people they’re not going to get it. Listen, but you won’t understand; watch, but don’t bother learning anything because you’re not going to.
