New Year’s Greeting

OIP-9

My wife, Marti Fischer, CEO of the Catch Ministry, texted this New Years message to our immediate family and I thought it would be appropriate for our entire Catch community. After all, we are a family, too, and we are here for each other.

No matter what occurs or as far as we are concerned, let’s promise each other to hold in our hearts the fact that we are a family with deep roots, because of the love we hold for each other. And might I recommend we call each member to our minds with supreme fondness and call our hearts to pray for each other by name each day.

May we never forget the poetic genius of God to bring his power in the form of our Savior in straw poverty — a poverty that brings each of us to our knees in gracious gratitude. We are loved, and because of His unconditional love, we can love each other like no other can. This New Year offers many, many new beginnings for each other, intended to bring us closer together as one amazing family.

God Bless this family of ours and Happy Near Year to us all!

It’s a Wonderful Life: Video #7

image 2

Well, we have learned much on this brief dance through “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Is it? It depends on how you look at it. George Bailey had a much different perspective on life at the end of the story than he did at the beginning though nothing really changed except his perspective. It really is a statement of how grace turned outward can change everything.

How easy it is for us to judge instead of reaching out in love. In this story, one woman chooses to overcome judgment with grace and forgiveness and in so doing, she provides a means for others who have been treated poorly to replace perceived judgement with God’s grace.

This is our seventh and final video. The midnight hour approaches. If you can give, please do so while you still can receive your tax deduction for 2022. Thank you to all who have taken part, and remember, it’s still not too late for your year-end donation.

God speaks through a store window.

Like all these stories, this is true. You will have to listen to our two angels, Clarence and Joseph, to get the story on this one, but this is the story of how a Nobody became Somebody through what she saw in a window.

Time is running out on your opportunity to give in 2022 and our opportunity to meet our goal. Please consider a gift now to partner with our boots on the ground worldwide. We are looking for you to come alongside us now, more than ever.

It’s a Wonderful Life: Video #5

No, John. Jumping won’t solve anything. Even George Bailey couldn’t jump without saving somebody else. Poor George thought his life was a failure. He couldn’t see that all his failures and disappointments ended up in making someone else’s life better.

In this episode, our angels talk about failure, and how it is a euphemism for success. And if you wonder about angels failing, well remember, Clarence is an Angel Second Class and Angels have to learn things too.

Putting your focus on somebody else changes everything.

Now we ask you to put your focus as well on giving and how the Catch is getting everyone to rethink what it truly means to follow Christ. We have boots on the ground all over the world. We only have a few hours left and we have a long way to go. There’s too many of you waiting for someone else to give. Don’t miss out on the blessing!

It’s a Wonderful Life: Video #4

embrace

This episode’s story is about a Nobody who desires to be a Somebody but is not recognized by a Somebody who should know better. Just because he’s speaking to a Nobody from another generation, that should not make any difference.

Relationships are all about having patience and being willing to learn. It’s the adventure of discovering someone different than you.

The Catch is all about developing relationships because relationships are eternal, and they are they way God has designed the gospel of welcome — grace turned outward — to go forward and spread out into the world. Relationships are everything.

Enjoy this video (#4) about Isaiah, a Millennial, and Jim, a Boomer, and what they have to gain through a relationship with each other.

And then we ask that you be generous with your year-end gift to the Catch Ministry. This is our last day! Time is almost up! Help us get ready for 2023! Join us as we prepare more boots on the ground for the relationships that will make a difference for eternity.

It’s a Wonderful Life: VIDEO #3

It’s official. Everybody is a nobody. No one can measure up to the standard of perfection required without Christ. Which means no one is anyone without grace. But Christ brings to us His great gift of Grace that upends God’s law, and suddenly, I am no longer NOBODY but SOMEBODY. I am alive!

Certainly within the Catch and its ministries, whenever the Grace of God is preached, people whose lives have come under duress based on both choice and events, gravitate to its message. And since we are an international community, the messengers of Grace become more numerous. Their message multiplies to finally, everyone, everywhere, causing thousands of people to escape a place of NOBODY to become a SOMEBODY in God’d kingdom.

The Catch Ministry will never turn its back on a NOBODY for any reason. We recognize it is God’s business to bring His people to Himself. We are the messengers of His greatest Gift, whether they are or are not part of the body of believers. We do not know whether they will or will not come to Christ, and we do not know when they will or will not. Thus, we treat everybody with the dignity and respect due an ongoing creation of God. Their final choices are not for anyone to judge, but to walk alongside treating everybody as a SOMEBODY.

So when you contribute to the Catch and its ministries, you are not just investing in a NOBODY but a SOMEBODY saved, just like yourself, by Grace.

As we travel this journey together for the sake of the Grace given to each of us and for the purpose of giving it to everyone, everywhere — turning multiples of people from NOBODIES to SOMEBODIES — let’s celebrate. We are alive!

Celebrate with us by making a year-end gift contribution … and might we dare suggest, stretching your gift and your capability to give. God meets us, not in our scarcity, but in our ability to believe.

It’s A Wonderful Life

image 2

As we close out 2022, we turn your attention to everyone’s favorite Christmas Eve movie, It’s A Wonderful Life, that heart-warming story of how one man found out his life counted.

We want you to know how much your life counts to us, to all the members of the Catch, and mostly to God above. For these last two days of the year, we will be recalling the charming story of George Bailey and the town of Bedford Falls in order to tell your story through the lives of a number of our Catch members.

Stay tuned to the Catch. You won’t want to miss one of our clever videos starring John & Marti Fischer and produced by Gunnar Simonsen, where, through the magical venue of radio drama theater, we will bring you our stories of how many of our Catch members are discovering it truly is a wonderful life.

Below are links to our YouTube video, and to our donation page where you can record your end-of-the-year gift to keep our important ministry going forward. And keep connected to the Catch. We will be posting a new video every few hours for your entertainment and edification.

Wholly Holy

OIP-5

How silently, how silently, the wondrous gift is given

So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of His heaven

No ear may hear His coming, but in this world of sinx

Where meek souls will receive Him still, the dear Christ enters in

Jesus was born into straw poverty on a silent night because that’s the way He continues to come into the world again, and again and again. He quietly steals His way into the straw poverty of our souls — no fanfare — only angels notice and sing. (The Bible says the angels make a pretty big deal of it when even one sinner comes to Christ, but, of course, we don’t hear that.)

Beyond the longest night

longest-day-barn-picture

And when it’s day to me, it’s night to someone

And when it’s night, you may not want to go on

                      – Mark Heard

For those in the northern hemisphere, today is the day after winter solstice. Last night was the longest, darkest night of the year, but the consolation prize is that starting today, every day gets a little longer as we get closer to the sun and head towards spring. For our friends in the southern half of the planet like South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, it’s the beginning of summer and each day is shorter than the day before. That’s because the earth tilts slightly, and on December 21 is when the northern hemisphere tilts furthest away from the sun, thus the longest night of the year, and the shortest night down under.

Away in a manger

baby-jesus-2

I have seen the son of man
In the human caravan

from the song “Rejoice” by John Fischer

What if God was one of us? What would that mean?

It would mean that God had two little feet and ten little toes. It would mean He played with those toes and at some point realized they were His.
