Tea time

There’s going to be a tea party tonight. It has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with love.

Thanks to some of you, some 60 women or so who are without a home will be able to pick out their own cup and saucer, sip tea from it in grand fashion, imagine they are rich (when they really are) and then slip it away in their humble bag of earthly possessions to treasure and use another time. Perhaps one day, in a much-improved reality, they will pull out that cup and remember today and the fact that someone brought some joy into their life even for a moment.

It’s okay, you know, to bring someone some measure of joy even when you can’t change their situation.

Come to think of it, God didn’t really change a whole lot about our situation when He sent His Son into our world. He just entered it. He subjected Himself to our reality that He might meet us here. He didn’t change a whole lot about it; He just came.

There will be some joy tonight, there will be some laughter, there will be some surprise, and maybe some tears. Some might even tell you it was worth being homeless just to find this place – this home where they are loved. Perhaps that is one way to look at the hardship and suffering in this world that so often defies our understanding. To find that God meets us here in the middle of it might just make it – dare I say – worth it. I don’t know; you’ll have to ask them.

But I do know there’s going to be a tea party tonight. It has nothing to do with politics, and everything to do with love.

John and Marti–thank you for allowing me to be a part of this “God Moment” tonight. You are so right when you say that many times you can’t change the situation, but you can share it. That sharing makes all of the difference. I know tonight is going to be so beautiful, and I will be keeping you all in prayer as you share this special time. Please tell the ladies at your tea party that there are so many of us that truly care about them, and we keep them close in our hearts.

    John,

I purchased and downloaded Still Life a day or so ago and boy does it bring back memories! (I used to have it on vinyl along with Inside, Johnny’s Cafe, Naphtali and others) I was one of those thousands of young people you ministered to back in the late 1970’s at Mount Hermon camp in Felton California. Your music and ministry played a foundational role in my life as I was beginning to find out about the love of Jesus. Your ministry inspired me to pick up a guitar and write my own songs and lead worship at Mt. Cross, (A nearby camp in Ben Lomond California) and various churches all around the country. The website I listed (http://singingscripture.com/)
is a recording project I was recently involved in, I hope you can find the time to have a listen, if so, I would love to hear your thoughts about scripture set to original music.
You sir are an anointed pioneer that the Father has, and will continue to use mightily.
I was so blessed to see that you were part of the “First Love” Project along with many other pioneers of Christian music. Thank you for your faithfulness John and you too Marti, for the blessing you have been to your husband and to the ministry. Please let me know if you are ever speaking in Arizona, I would love to see you again and thank you in person, as your ministry has left it’s mark on me and countless others. Blessings to you John and Marti!

    Bruce
