Habakkuk was a Jesus Freak

OIP-31

Today we begin a study on the book of Habakkuk, one of the 12 minor prophetic books in the Old Testament. They are called “minor” not because they are of little importance, but because — unlike the much longer writings of Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah and Daniel — they are relatively short. Habakkuk is only three chapters — the first two are a dialogue between the prophet and God, and the last chapter is a song, because Habakkuk was a temple musician and a poet.

That’s why I’m calling Habakkuk a Jesus Freak; because he led a revolution, had a word from the Lord, spoke out against the wickedness and injustice in the world, and as a musician he sang his message to the people. We have a number of Jesus People we have reconnected with who fill that bill precisely. In fact, you will be hearing from them in the coming days and weeks.

Habakkuk is so timely and speaks so prophetically to our current situation. Just listen to this from the opening few verses of this book: (italics mine)

Wherever I look,

    “I see destruction and violence.

I am surrounded by people

who love to argue and fight.

The law has become paralyzed,

and there is no justice in the courts.

The wicked far outnumber the righteous,

so that justice has become perverted.” Habakkuk 1:3-4

Think of this — “destruction and violence…” “people who love to argue and fight…” “no justice in the courts…” “the law has become paralyzed…” “justice has become perverted.” Wait a minute. Are we reading Habakkuk or the front page of today’s newspaper? This is too close to be a coincidence. This is prophecy that is true thousands of years later. I’m convinced that if we follow the message in Habakkuk, we will find out what God wants us to do today. Stick close with us over these next few days as we find out what God has to say to us through Habakkuk. Don’t miss a day!

I believe we can all learn from this very short book and hopefully more folks will become Jesus Freaks like Habakkuk. Sounds like to me the time is now. Take care, God Bless, and lets all get a great message of wisdom from this very short book.

Reading ancient texts, we learn that humans have not changed all that much. We still have arguing and perversion of justice. And we still have people of faith truly speaking God’s message. We need more. Thank you for your witness.

Isn’t that the truth! I was just amazed it brought out the two most glaring things happening right now.

Folks, I ask for prayer for my Mom. She has been living with our daughter Kathy since she come out here from Kentucky. She is back in the hospital in St George Utah.
My Mom was released and sent home on Sunday but, yesterday developed a rapid pulse and slight fever. She is 88 years. Mom is the one who taught me about being saved so long ago and told me about when she was saved years ago and then joined Rozzel Chapel Church in Graves County Kentucky. We visited her Mothers Day at our Daughters house and thank God for that visit. We have been planning another visit in a week. I thank the Catch for the great messages and being there always for each of us. Take care, God Bless, and have a great week.

Dear Pastor John someday do yourself a VERY big favor in picking up & reading a GREAT book about understanding personify types such s Dr. Robert Rohm’s “Understanding Personality Types”(PT) and understand the VERY reason you had to add the “… who love to argue and fight…” in italics is a dead give-a-way to your PT – b/c OVER 20% of the World’s population feel arguing and fighting is a way of life….and there’s nothing wrong with it!

All well and good, Mark, but I’m referring to something else here. I’m referring to an across-the-board trend towards argumentation and polarization the like of which I haven’t seen in my lifetime. And the italics have to do with the things mentioned in Habakkuk that are also very prevalent in our culture right now.

Appreciate the comments Pastor John and I do think/believe I understand what you added in the italics… and this:

“I’m referring to an across-the-board trend towards argumentation and polarization the like of which I haven’t seen in my lifetime.”

Let me now suggest to consider reading the letters between out 2nd John Adams & 3rd Thomas Jefferson Presidents. Also the history of the Civil War and the 2 World Wars this country has been in – that lead to many men & women being killed or severely maimed… Besides the complete assinine events of Jan. 6 – I don’t see a lot of “…across-the-board trend towards argumentation and polarization…” that led to us to Wars – this Country my good friend was setup to have argumentation & debates and if you could possible educate yourself by reading the above mentioned book I seriously think it would help give you a bit more wider perspective….

PS And maybe dare I say consider truing of the News!
