The Lord had said to Abram [his name was later changed to Abraham], “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” Genesis 12:1
Abraham was a pioneer. He was told to pack up all his belongings and take off, although he was not told where: “…to a land I will show you.” I think that’s pretty much par for the course for pioneers. Pioneers don’t know where they are going; they just go. They have a general direction (“go west young man”), but nothing specific.
Think about the main people in the Bible — Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Paul, even Jesus — they were almost always on the move. We are not settlers. The old spiritual has it right: “This world is not my home; I’m just a-passin’ through.” This is not just a coincidence; it’s a reality that needs to be a part of our make-up and our constant understanding. We are pioneers passing through. If not physically, then spiritually and emotionally, we are constantly changing, growing, stretching, and being transformed into the image of Christ. We are on the move.
The human tendency is to become sedentary, especially as we grow older. Refuse to succumb to that. Listen to our BlogTalkRadio interview last night with Mike High. He just had the best year of his life in 2023, and that’s after a career as an Air Force fighter pilot flying F-16s. It started with climbing Mt Kilimanjaro last January with his daughter. For someone who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s four years ago, that’s a remarkable feat, indeed. Now he’s founded a new business. He’s obviously not letting anything stop him and he’s not listening to or making excuses. Abraham was 75 when he left Ur to go to a land God promised to show him. It’s true they lived longer then, but still, to set out as a pioneer at 75 … that’s significant.
Don’t ever settle. We are going somewhere. Always on the move.

Follow Jesus and celebrate the journey no matter where it takes each one of us. Each moment will be the greatest blessing. Take care, God Bless, and have a great end of week.
