Your prison is walking through this world all alone.
– Don Henley and Glen Frey from the song: “Desperado”
I guess just about anything can become a prison if you stay in it long enough.
This line from the song “Desperado” by the Eagles nails me every time. My isolation is truly my prison. The older I get, the more this prison becomes evident and the more my struggle with it becomes apparent. I think earlier in my life I might have been more oblivious to it than I am now. Now I have no excuse. Now I am fully aware of when I actually choose to stay isolated and it scares me how much I want it.
These things that are pleasing you can hurt you somehow
I don’t want to be accountable. I don’t want to have to answer to anyone for my choices. It’s lonely, but it’s safe. At least I think it is. In the long run, it’s much more painful because it ends in becoming uninvolved and disengaged.
Just about anything can become a prison if you stay in it long enough. And here’s when you know you’re really in trouble: when you know how to get out of your prison and you stay in. There’s a way of escape and you don’t take it. The bars are open and I’m just sitting in my cell, preferring what I know to what I don’t know that’s out there.
Where are you in all this? What’s your prison? Complete this sentence: Your prison is ___________________. It might be revealing.
This is coincidentally the eve of our first Accountability Commission meeting for the Catch. This is a good beginning. Men and women will be keeping our feet to the fire in relation to making sure our work on our latest expansion plans gets done, and remains relevant to our goals and objectives and the people we reach.
Jesus is in the business of setting captives free. That would include, I am sure, these prisons of our own making. He has unlocked the prison doors; it’s up to us to walk out.
It may be raining, but there’s a rainbow above you
Better let somebody love you (let somebody love you)
Let somebody love you before it’s too late.
Ah yes… I have the same “prison”
Good song & cool band the Eagles – RIP Glen Fry! Cool Catch too.
PS heard the other day, Glen’s son took his placed in the band & still have amazing harmonies!
You need your solitude to recharge, but once recharged staying in the recharger is not good. I have the same tendency as you: over-isolation. My act of writing this comment is an act of coming out of isolation. Last long weekend was an intense time with people and conversation. I knew it was wearing on me but I didn’t know how much until last night. I fell asleep by 8:30 and slept 11 hours. That was a recharging my body and mind needed. But now is the time to re-engage with others.
