Where is the truth?

(Click here for a video of John reading this Catch.)

I’ve never known the Bible to carry more of the weight of truth than it does today. That’s because nothing else does. Now that’s always been true, but even more so today. With the internet completely unchecked by facts and the major news sources aligned to support the extreme polarization we are experiencing politically, it is literally impossible to know who to trust. Who is telling you the truth? Is anybody? Conspiracy theories and polarized journalism leave you pretty helpless as an average person trying to sort through the mess of today’s news. We have lost faith in the media.

All the more reason to study our Bibles and trust the word of God. Isn’t it good to know there is a source we can go to that we know will tell us the truth. All the time; every time. And it’s not just the truth from some ancient time, it’s the truth for now. The Bible is current. It explains the world accurately as it is today. God is not surprised by any of the events today.

For instance, here’s just a little piece of the word of God that can help us combat the craziness of the world around us. “Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mold, but let God re-mold your minds from within, so that you may prove in practice that the plan of God for you is good” (Romans 12:2 Phillips).

Yes, more than ever, we need the word of God to navigate daily life in these unstable times. Remember, we are in the world but not of it so we are in the world but we are driven by God’s plan which is counter to the world, or countercultural. So whatever you read in the world, you’ve got to keep reading God’s book so our minds can be remolded by the truth.

I conclude with the words to one of my songs called, “The Word.”

The Word

by John Fischer

Who can you trust when all turns to dust,

And the dreams of men lie battered and crushed?

How can you say this is the way

When the founders of wisdom lie in coffins of clay?

Where is the truth that will stand the test of time?

Flowers will fade and fall away

But the word of God is here to stay;

Man shall not live by bread alone

But by every word from the mouth of God.

  1. Andrew Zwick says:

I think the Word itself says it best:

    2 Timothy 3:16-17
    King James Version
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Let’s not just be hearers but doers of the Word as well. Amen 🙏
