What is prayer?

Feature-image-Wildflower-

Prayer is talking to God.
Prayer is listening to God.
Prayer is deliberate (not going to sleep).
Prayer is reaching, stretching, wondering, doubting.

Prayer is what you do when you can’t do anything else.
Prayer is humbling.

Prayer is bumbling.
Prayer is empowering.
Prayer is on your knees.
Prayer is on the go.
Prayer is chatting with God like Tevye.
Prayer is pouring your heart out to God like David.
Prayer is wrestling with God for a blessing like Jacob.
Prayer is for you.
Prayer is for others.
Prayer is desperate.
Prayer is joyful.
Prayer is not just what I want, but finding out what God wants.
Prayer is silent.
Prayer is a scream … “Why?”
Prayer is a groaning that cannot be uttered.
Prayer is a liturgy that can be read.
Prayer is a dance.
Prayer is a stumble.
Prayer is arms out breathing the air of heaven.
Prayer is face down tasting the dust of earth.
Prayer is going off to be alone.
Prayer is joining up with many.
Prayer is what you do when you don’t know what to do.
Prayer is what you do when you do.
Prayer is a morning song.
Prayer is an evening whisper.
Prayer is a night cry.
Prayer is all about things – things I need … things I want … things I worry about.
Prayer is all about letting things go.
Prayer is what you can do for someone else.

Prayer is what someone else can do for you.
Prayer is what we can all do for each other.
Prayer is what we can do for you if you let us know.
Prayer is spiritual breathing.

Prayer is absolutely necessary
Pray without ceasing.

The Power of Our Prayer Ministry

The Catch Ministry would not exist without the power of prayer. Prayer is participating with God. How He involves us in His work is a mystery, but nevertheless, He does, calling all Christ’s followers to communicate with him through regular prayer.

Committed to praying until the Lord completes every work and through Jesus’ words, we are sharing a new sense of what prayer is, watching our faith grow, and our prayer life increase. Someday, all of us will play a part in letting others know the power of prayer, what we are learning, and experiencing now.

We have a large community, and we have a great amount of prayer power available to each of us. When you press the prayer button on the catchjohnfischer.live website or send a prayer request by email to catchjohnfischer@icloud, you are initiating a series of events that can change the world.

About our Prayer Warriors and why they are so special

Initially, twelve Prayer Warriors whose faithfulness and steadfast service 24/7 are making this prayer ministry a reality, receive your request and start praying immediately. The Prayer Warriors are a very special group of people. They take prayer and their assignment seriously.

We did not pick these people. They came to us at their own unction. We never put out a call for prayer warriors. The first one — the one who started it all — Catch reader Dave Butler came to us to ask if we would be open to a Prayer Ministry with those hand-picked for the job. We said most definitely and asked what we needed to do. Dave said, “Do nothing. Wait until people come to you asking if their gift could be used.” And sure enough, within a month 11 other Catch readers from all over the world and unknown to each other called to ask if their services could be used exclusively for the Catch Ministry and its people.

When taking their place as Catch Ministry Prayer Warriors, a married couple wrote “After much prayer before we offered our services, we can truly, reverently, spiritually, and graciously say: we are yours forever on this journey. We know the Lord wants us to be used by, in, and for this Catch Ministry. We felt the tap on the shoulder months ago, and wanted to make certain we were hearing what we thought we were hearing. When we realized it was a ‘go’ and we needed to step up, we did. I mean, I remember a man named Jonah, a town called Nineveh, and a BIG whale! We’ve learned not to tell God ‘No.’ So Praise the Lord and let’s get started!”

Now the only way we can describe these Prayer Warriors, though it sounds kind of mercenary, is that they are professionals when it comes to prayer. Sometimes they are called intercessors. They stand in the gap. Prayer is not wishful thinking for them. It is a powerful spiritual weapon that cancels the plans of the evil one against the people of God and establishes our Lord’s plan for the huge work we are called to do, and these people wield that weapon. They have the hotline to heaven.

They not only pray; they know what to pray. They pray according to the will of God. They take each of our confidential requests and go before God and He shows them what to pray. And they pray until they have an answer. If they don’t hear back from you, they will keep on praying until they do.

Hurting people within our Community

There are a number of you on a rough stretch of road. Many of you had no warning this was coming, and no one you might meet on the way out who can tell you how much longer it’s going to last. We know you because of our Prayer Ministry, and we are so honored to be able to walk along with you and share your burden.

There is a woman we are praying for who is dying. She’s beautiful and way too young, but you can read the pain on her face. Just to see her face is to see life and death hanging in the balance. And then there is an alcoholic struggling to stay sober, parents who have lost their kids to drugs, a grandmother watching her three grandchildren go through a messy divorce, a homeless son with health issues, a sweet couple struggling through a pain-filled incurable disease, a divorced father watching his two daughters get married and so much wanting for them a better marriage than their parents had, two families who are both dealing with eating disorders with their children and found each other through us and are encouraging each other and sharing stories, a daughter who is ruthless with her mother and fills her with hurt and pain, someone who has suddenly been served eviction papers after 12 years in the same place, young children who are cutting, a mother of three beautiful boys — two diagnosed with autism, parents dealing with bi-polar kids, and then there is Hazel … dear Hazel, who after years of giving care to her ailing husband came so close to death herself that she shut her computer down and told us all goodbye. By the way, that was not a sad event; it was a joyous one. Hazel was telling us she was ready to move on. “Won’t need this computer where I’m going!”

Summary

It’s quite obvious that opening the door to prayer has also opened the door to counseling and numerous other helping services including alerting authorities to potentially dangerous situations. We never thought we would be here, touching people in so many different ways. If we let all this go by and don’t take advantage of it, we can only think of three things that might be going on: 1) we forgot this resource is here, 2) we think our problem is too small and somehow not worthy of prayer (such a thing does not exist), or 3) we don’t believe prayer will make any difference.

At The Catch, we know it is not the latter. Our Prayer Ministry has a hotline to heaven. We see answers to prayers — miracles — happening within our Catch community every day.

From a MemberPartner…

I do not know of any better formula than giving counsel and pushing into actions of faith that go beyond the comfort zone. Can you imagine any better way than what Marti and John do to create a welcoming community for some forgotten people? They make His Church accessible in a brand new and needed way. Stand by them.
