Looking for Jesus

In dramatic fashion, Pope Francis delivered what turned out to be his final address yesterday — his traditional Easter message from the Vatican — and promptly went home to be with the Lord earlier this morning. Following is a paragraph from that address I thought was particularly poignant today, as we think of how Easter plays out into the rest of the year.

“This is the message of Easter: Christ is risen, he is alive! He is no longer a prisoner of death, he is no longer wrapped in a shroud, we cannot confine him to a fairy tale, we cannot make him a hero of the ancient world, or think of him as a statue in a museum! We must set out to look for him in life, in the faces of our brothers and sisters, look for him in everyday business, look for him everywhere except in the tomb.”

Look for Jesus “everywhere except in the tomb.” That is the way we keep Easter alive. We are always out looking for the risen Lord. Jesus is on the loose. He said that whatever we do to the least of these, we do unto Him, which tells you right away at least one place He is. Write me and tell me where else you see Him.

Have you seen Jesus my Lord

He’s here in plain view

Take a look, open your eyes

He’ll show it to you

Have you ever stood in the fam’ly with the Lord there in your midst; Seen the face of Christ in your brother? Then I say you’ve seen Jesus my Lord.

Thought of this song when you quoted Pope Francis: “in the faces of our brothers and sisters”. Bless you for writing that one! And what a great quote: “look for him everywhere except in the tomb”!
