The inside track on people at Johnny’s

All kinds of people there with plenty to say…

“All kinds of people” refers to a diversity. There is a diversity of folk down at Johnny’s Cafe, and that makes for a learning experience for anyone who wants to set up temporary camp there. It’s a lesson in understanding and loving God.

If everyone is made in God’s image, then God is a kind of composite of everyone you see. Do you ever think you are looking at the face of God when you’re looking at a stranger? Well you might as well be, because it is true. God made us all in His image so He could talk to us and know us. He wants a relationship with us. He wants a relationship with you. He wants a relationship with everyone you meet today, and everyone you meet was made for this relationship. That’s why we’re in His image.

“God wants to know you,” is something you can assume about everyone you meet. That is an incredible fact that can give you an inside track on everyone down at Johnny’s. God wants to know each and every one of them. To be sure, God already knows everything about everybody, it’s just that He wants to experience them wanting to know Him back. That’s why a relationship with God is such a big deal. It’s why we were made. It’s the most important thing about us. That’s why it’s such a tragedy for someone to live their whole life without knowing God. It’s missing what it was all about.

Think about letting people know that today. At least know it in your own heart, because it will instruct how you treat others, and how you get to know them. “God wants to know you — He wants to have a relationship with you.” If they can’t handle that thought yet, at least you can treat them as if it were true, because you know that it is. Soon they may find out.

Arnold, my 82-year-old friend who died three weeks ago found that out. He found out just in time. Arnold’s interment is today. He goes into the ground today, but his spiritual body is already with the Lord where they will be in relationship for eternity. God’s got him now. He already knows God better than any of us do, and he got a late start!

God is in the business of relationships, and that means we are too, and that’s why Johnny’s Cafe is the place to be.

  1. I hope you’ll relay to your readers how Arnold’s memorial service went.

I will. The memorial service, by the way, is Saturday. Yesterday was the interment — putting his remains in the ground with a couple family members and a few friends present. We had a 15 minute little service by the grave site. Marie quoted Psalm 23, we sang Amazing Grace and I read from 1 Corinthians 15 and said a prayer. Short but meaningful and full of rejoicing at the knowledge of Arnold in a new body!

      • Excellent!
“…thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Looking forward to reading your “report”!
        Still praying… 🙂
