Looking unto Jesus

OIP-5

As it was fifty years ago in the Jesus Movement, so it is today: our message is simply Jesus. It is Jesus, His life, His words, His death, His resurrection, His commissioning, His ascension and His coming back that we follow.

“Jesus” is the one-word answer. Not in its simpleness, but in its completeness. Jesus being the answer still means we have to figure out why, and that is not always obvious. But because Jesus was God living a complete life here on earth, most of what we need to know can be figured out by learning what Jesus did and said when He was here, and then applying that to our life today.

Just don’t think that this is “What Would Jesus Do?”. That too quickly turns into “What do I think He would do,” with is a cover for “What would I do?”. That is full of too much speculation. It’s what did Jesus do and say when He was here, and how does that translate to our lives today. I have no idea what Jesus would do today, but I can make some deductions about my life today based on what He did and said when He was here.

If the question has anything to do with purpose and meaning in life; if the question is about priorities; if the question is about what millennials to boomers think is important; if the question is about Christians and politics; if the question is about what to do in a pandemic; if the question is about getting along with your neighbors; if the question is about race; if the question is about the poor and the homeless; if the question is about the election, or anything else on the front page of the newspaper, the answer will be found by looking into Jesus. We may not all come up with the same answers, but we will all be looking into Jesus, which is what we all desperately need to do right now, and by that I mean the biblical and historic Jesus. Not the imaginary one that may exist in our minds.

Love this: “”Jesus” is the one-word answer. Not in its simpleness, but in its completeness.” Amen

  2. Sandie says:

The refrain in a current song has become my fervent prayer: “In a world full of hate, be a light.”
With everything in me, I am clinging to the message at the beginning of John’s gospel – that the Light shines in the darkness – and that the darkness will not overcome the Light. John 1:5
Even when my light is almost out; diminished to a tiny spark…SATAN WILL NOT CLAIM THE VICTORY!
When I was a young believer, I narrowed my focus to this one question: “Who is this Man Jesus?” Fifty years later, I am still answering that question and trying to apply the answers to my life. It never ends…and it shouldn’t.
