For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. 2 Corinthians 5:14-15

What compels you? Is it all about being the best Christian you can be? Is it about winning? Is it about Christians 1, the World 0? Is it about being safe? Is it about being free to worship as you wish? Or about making America Christian?

Or is it that Jesus died so that everyone might live, not only now, but for all eternity? Could there be anything more important than this? Anything more compelling?

We need to recalibrate our priorities. It’s about the gospel of welcome — grace turned outward. It’s about the fact that you and I have the absolute best news in the history of the world. There is nothing more important than this. Nothing more compelling. 

The world is inhabited by the walking dead, ourselves included. God said in the garden that if we ate of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, we would surely die. Well guess what? We did. Therefore we all died. But so did Jesus. And He died for all of us, so that those who live would no longer live for themselves but for Him, and why not, since they would still be dead, if it weren’t for Him? 

You and I are living among the walking dead, and we have the one thing that will bring them all life. How could anything be more compelling than that? And it is Christ’s love that compels us. It is Christ’s love that compelled Him to do it, and therefore Christ’s love that compels us to tell everyone what He did. Forget about religion, politics, even Christianity. We are bringing dead people to life. What could be greater?
