Chandler and I are making our way home today from Tucson, Arizona where we have been visiting this weekend with one of our Vanguard members, Mike High. Mike is a career Air Force fighter pilot and instructor, and Chandler has recently been looking into the Air Force as a possible career. We came to spend some quality time with Mike, and hear his perspective on the Air Force, and what might be the best pathway for Chandler to pursue this dream.
Our investigation included a personal guided tour of the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson and Chandler got to get out and walk around a couple aircraft.
Upon returning to our hotel, a guest ranch set among the saguaro cactuses in the foothills east of Tucson, we were greeted by a massive thunderstorm in the mountains behind us that filled the sky with lightning for about two hours. It also displayed an amazing desert rainbow which lasted almost as long and made possible the amazing rainbow picture above. The Arizona desert has its own splendor unparalleled anywhere else. I believe the saguaro are lifting their arms in praise of the Lord. And if the trees of the field can clap their hands, and the mountains can break forth into singing, and the very rocks can cry out in praise of God — why not?
I also wanted to display the wonderful rainbow in light of our current discussion of sin and the reminder that God could have every reason to destroy all human life on this planet and start over as He did in the days of Noah, but for his promise, manifested in the rainbow, that He would never again destroy all life on earth, a promise that also points to His saving grace in Jesus Christ — a grace that has nothing to do with us and everything to do with God. So lift your hands and praise God like a saguaro!
Maybe the saguaro sing tenor. 🙂
Very cool pic Pastor John! And loved this thought: “I believe the saguaro are lifting their arms in praise of the Lord. And if the trees of the field can clap their hands, and the mountains can break forth into singing, and the very rocks can cry out in praise of God — why not?”
Mother Nature is a great reminder of what God created and us and the Saguaro should always be hand in hand together lifting ourselves to praise the Lord each day of our lives.
