This is a special day. Yes, there is much going on with the queen’s passing, a new school year starting, fires burning in southern California and ash falling from the sky during the hottest heat wave of the summer here, but none of that can hold a candle to the real news today. Today is Chandler’s birthday. He is a 9/9/99 baby, and that makes him 23 today.
Now because I know my son, he’s not going to want anybody to fuss over this, but we’re going to fuss as much as we can. It’s for us to celebrate, too. We brought him into the world by choice. Our life has been deeply challenged and deeply enriched. Chandler is cut from a different cloth and so loving him has put us on a learning curve but all that does is increase our knowledge of what love is.
So we stop on this journey and mark this day, like we would do for anyone’s birthday. A birthday is the beginning of a person, and a person is a very big deal. A person is a unique, one-of-a-kind individual made in the image of God — like a star in the universe — devised in the mind of God and destined to rule for eternity.
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9)

Hey Chandler, Happy Birthday!! Your Dad has told us so much about you that I know you as well as my own children, oops they are adults now. Not many of us can say that they skateboarded along Route 66. I like very much your independently, off the wall creative spirit. It keeps your Dad grounded in adventure, the quirky, and puts a huge smile on your Mom’s face. The unusual is the spice of life.
When we get close to God, we notice HE is just like us, or are we like Him. No matter, hang on to that spirit till your dying day.
Happy Belated Birthday. You inspire so many of us to have a great spirit. We need to always be close to God and you show that in such a special way.
