State of the world

(Click here for a video of John reading this Catch.)

Every day it seems we are presented with, no matter what your chosen news source, a new list of terribly worrisome things that we can do nothing about. The last part of that sentence is the most important — the fact that we can’t do anything about these worrisome issues is what has so many people frightened. That produces a helpless feeling, unless, of course, you know someone that can do something about the state of the world. Well here is the good news: we do.

We do know someone who can do something about the state the world is in right now. We know Him intimately. He is in our heart; we talk to Him every day. It is the Lord.

Well what difference does that make? some might say. Your God doesn’t appear to be doing anything, and the world is just as scary.

Not exactly. Our God is actually quite busy in this world. He is sustaining believers, He is saving people from their sins, He is forgiving people, He is healing others, He is giving courage and boldness to those who need it, He is giving comfort to thousands, if not millions, He is empowering others to do the right things for the right reasons, and He is available to all who are afraid about things they can’t do anything about.

You see, God can do something about what is going on in the world — He can do anything He wants — so that if He doesn’t, it’s because everything is operating right along on His timeline as it should. Therefore we have nothing to fear.

Let not your hearts be troubled neither let them be afraid, said Jesus. I’m going to provide a place for you and when I’m ready, I will come back and get you and take you to be with me forever, that where I am, there you may be also. (John 14:1 loose translation)

My comfort on the state of the world: all the wars and rumors of wars, and people saying right is wrong and wrong is right, and other awful things, all near the time that Christ returns!
