Two guys are walking down a road. One says to the other, “Can you believe what’s been going on in town this weekend?
“I can’t make anything out of it,” says the other. “I was sure he was the Messiah.”
“Me too,” says the first traveler. “But what use is a dead Messiah?”
Suddenly, a stranger catches up with them and wants to know what they are discussing so intently as they walk along. This stops them for a moment their tracks.
“You must be the only person in Jerusalem who hasn’t heard about all the things that have happened there the last few days.”
“What things?” the stranger asks.
“The things that happened to Jesus, the man from Nazareth,” they say. “He was a prophet who did powerful miracles, and he was a mighty teacher in the eyes of God and all the people. But our leading priests and other religious leaders handed him over to be condemned to death, and they crucified him. We had hoped he was the Messiah who had come to rescue Israel. This all happened just three days ago.”
“Then,” the other one continues telling him. “Some women from our group of his followers were at his tomb early this morning, and they came back with an unbelievable report. They said his body was missing, and they had seen angels who told them Jesus is alive!”
“Yeah, but they were women,” the other one chimes in. “You can’t trust women.”
That’s when the stranger gives him a disagreeable look and launches into a long dissertation from the scriptures, starting with Moses and extending through all the prophets, explaining all the predictions that the Messiah would have to suffer before entering His glory.
When they finally reach their destination in the town of Emmaus, the two persuade their new friend to stay the night, and as they are around the dinner table and he takes the bread, blesses it and breaks it open, their eyes are opened and they realize they’ve been waking and talking for the last two hours with the risen Jesus Himself! And as soon as they realize this He disappears.
“Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?”
How would you like to have been in on that Bible study?
When your table is open, you never know who you might welcome. Some have entertained angels without knowing it.
Who will be at your table tonight?
We Are Not Spectators
This community isn’t built for spectators.
It’s built for people willing to engage.
To ask.
To wrestle.
To grow.
We don’t claim to have all the answers.
But we are committed to seeking them together—anchored in Scripture, aided by those gifted to lead, and grounded in a shared desire to follow Jesus faithfully.
That’s why we call this special group: MemberPartners.
They are members with us and partners together in this ministry.
This kind of community doesn’t happen accidentally.
It happens when people step in and engage.
Join our MemberPartners today. They’re holding a seat for you.
